• “Mrs. Dalloway said
she would buy the flowers herself.” This is the very first line of the novel
but as you will proceed in the story you will find that Mrs. Dalloway is from a
well to do family, yet she does every single thing on her own. This particular
line introduces us not just to the character of Mrs. Dalloway but also her way
of doing things.
• In the beginning I
found it a bit difficult because of a vast number of characters but eventually
I started loving the language in which Virginia Woolf has linked each
character. I am not giving this book five stars for the plot. In general, the
plot was very simple. I loved the way in which the book is written.
The writing style
made me fall in love with this book. Virginia Woolf not only talks about the
events that are taking place but also, she talks about what an individual might
be thinking or let me rather use the term ‘Stream of Consciousness’.
• Virginia Woolf also
pick themes like the place of women in society, how people used to deal with if
particular person is having mental illness during those times and may other
things that I found heavy but content rich.
